Its getting warmer. I can feel it through the heat resistent glass. im starting to question the government. they said we would be safe here. As i play in the yard, it looks like it always does. The flowers are growing, the grass is green. the sun is shining. but if i look into the sky, all i see is shining glass. the glass that surrounds me and my whole town. we are all that left. that sun, the sun that brought life for so many years, is destroying everyone and everything. if i stand at the edge of town, the grass goes from green to black. burnt. gone. We are living in this little bubble. we can never leave even if we wanted to. but i have a feeling it wont matter anyways, because the sun is giving us no mercy. But its not all the suns fault. Its ours too. We were careless, so materialistic. Having our world infected with all this smoke and gas causing everything to get warmer. Now we have no penguins. No oceans. No anything. Just us, and our bubble.
My mom called me inside just as i was getting on my swing. She seemed frightened, like some thing was wrong. "Mom? Whats going on?" I asked her puzzled. "Nothing just get inside!" she screamed. I ran inside as she slammed and locked the door behind me. She told me to go to my room, i skipped up to the top of the stairs and stopped. She has flipped on the tv, and was listening to the news. "Im sorry to announce that the bubble is becoming weaker and weaker. We have 24 hours until it can no longer protect us. So get with your families and friends and spend the time you do have together."
I went into shock.
Were all going to die. My Mother started up the stairs and i met her half way. I jumped into her arms. We cried together for a long time. After awile we got up. She called all of our friends and family while i sat on the couch in a curled up ball. I was scared, and hot. Why did Global Warming have to happen? The human race is so dumb, i thought to myself. All thoughs Green house gases going into the sky, we could have prevented it. Now look at us. The Only thing keeping us away from the sun was a thick heat resistent plate of glass. Now, our last resort is melting away in front of our eyes. I'm only 13 years old. I lost my dad, grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and my brother and sister to the sun. The only ones alive is my 18 year old twin cousins, Lacee and Charoletter, that went to the college up the road. They arent in college anymore of course. They just live up the street. A few minutes later i heard some knocking on the door. "Annie come let us in! Its so hot im already sunburned!" Lacee yelled. I bolted to the door and opened it for them. They had only been outside for a few minutes and their faces were bright red and sun burned. And this was just the beginning to the worst and last day of my life. It only went down hill from there.
